Our popular culture is populated with "famous" people living lives marked by pride, independence, excess and defiance. Their self-centered lives are publicized and romanticized as the natural way to live. It's a backwards, upside down lie. Submission and obedience to God is a natural way to live. We are made by Christ and for Christ. When we find him, we find ourselves and we find our brothers and sisters. When we yield to God we do not forfeit our freedom; we find true freedom living in him, by him and for him. If we live apart from him or in defiance of him, we go to pieces and destroy our lives and the lives of others. When we live consciously according to Christ, we really live.
